Hi, I run charters out of the small port of Shimoni, on the Kenya Coast (East Africa), where I have been fishing for the last 48 years. We caught many Broadbill night fishing, but recently I have been trying the new deep drop system in daylight. On my 3rd try we managed to get a big one of 342 lbs in 2000 ft of water and this is the first one ever landed here in daylight. Unfortunately, just as we were almost within reach of the leader, after a 3 hour fight, a pod of Pilot Whales arrived and began attacking our fish, killing it and removing a large part of the head and the stomach. The amount of weight lost was probably around 10 kilos so the fish would have weighed a good deal more had it not been damaged. I would like to correspond with you in order to discuss latest techniques and compare notes, as we are so far away from your area and are doing this mainly as detailed in an article in “Blue Water” magazine. There may be other methods that we dont know about.
